France, as we know, had gone through one of the most important and significant revolutions of the world. It is said that, the fall of Bastile and freedom of monarchy was what France had to achieve. But actually there were many more bars.
In August, 1792, with the execution of Queen Marrie, the monarchy got permanently abolished. In 1793, Maximilian Robespierre, one of the most important leaders of French revolution became the head of Public Safety Commission. Then, He started reign of terror.
What is actually the Reign of Terror?
Robespierre announced, those who were antirevolutionary, that who were against the revolution will be guillotined (executed). It created a fear in the people as a lot of people within this time had been recognised as revolution opposers and been hanged. Robespierre killed 17000 people in just 11months!
Well, some of his nearest people started doubting that Robespierre actually killed anyone who opposes him. He wanted to make his position parmanent.
However, all Robespierre’s bad deeds did not spare him in the end. National Convention declared him outlawed. He was first jailed than executed.
This horrifying reign ended in 1794 though the revolution didn’t really stop here. I will talk about it later.
